Color

Color brings a picture to life; engendering moods, suggesting subtle nuances of style. Color associations are endlessly varied.

Color has its practical aspects too. It can arrest interest, direct attention, help to clarify detail and differentiate between areas.

Color can be subtle (diluted, desaturated, pastel hues), or blatant (bright, pure saturated hues). Excessive color can be overwhelming. While certain color relationships are comfortable together, others are vibrant; some clash violently.

Colour is subjective

Unless color reproduction is particularly bad, we tend to assume that it is ‘natural’, ‘realistic’. – ‘just like everyday life’. We accept colors in a picture … untill we happen to compare them with another version nearby. ...
