Scripting for Television

For most productions, a good script is the underlying framework for the whole operation.

Script formats

You can arrange scripts in two ways:

Single-column. A single-column layout, similar to that used for film scripts. All dialogue and action details are in a wide central column. Director’s-notes on cameras’ shots and switching are handwritten in the left margin.

Dual-column. A more comprehensive, information two-column arrangement (see example opposite) has picture information on the left, with sound information (dialogue, sound effects, etc.) and action on the right.

When is it written?
