For some teams, the first meeting of a new team is the kickoff meeting. However, I believe that a kick-off meeting is a specific event or activity that has some really specific components.
The purpose of an effective team kick-off meeting is to:
• Clarify management’s expectations of the team, including any limitations or items that are not negotiable.
• Present the overarching goal or purpose of the team, including any due dates or deliverables that are not subject to change.
• Identify the roles played by the members of the team in a general way.
