Beware of the After Meeting “Meeting”

When the meeting ends, you stay around for a few minutes speaking to a few members, then gather up your belongings and head out the door of the conference room. As you leave the room, you notice a group of four people gathered together standing at the end of the corridor in what looks like an animated conversation. You have just come upon the “after meeting meeting.”

When a meeting includes some contentious issues, when there are some strong feelings about a decision made at the meeting, or when there is lack of clarity about a topic that was discussed, the potential for this type of ad hoc meeting exists. These spontaneous meetings occur because:
