An Incident Cost Model

In an effort to develop an incident cost model for universities, the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) conducted the Incident Cost Analysis and Modeling Project (ICAMP) in the 1997–1998 time frame. Under the direction of Dr. Virginia Rezmierski from the University of Michigan, the study reviewed 30 computer incidents that had occurred at the participating university campuses. Each incident was studied in detail to help “develop a methodology for understanding the factors that influence the occurrence and costs of incidents in academic computing environments, and to provide a sense of the magnitude of overall loss to universities from particular information technology incidents.”[8]
