Statistics and Cases

We start this chapter by exploring some estimates previously computed in response to surveys and real-world examples that reflect the financial impact of computer incidents to various organizations. Although these results and example cases do not reflect directly the methodology used in creating the damage estimates, they do help to identify the magnitude of the problem in computing incident costs. They also help to shed some light on how expensive computer crime and incidents can be to an organization. Ideally, this perspective will inspire more in-depth study of this aspect of computer incident response in the near future.
