Chapter 7. Selecting the Products and Tools

A threat is an avenue through which a person or event may exploit a vulnerability to adversely affect the system. Examples of threats include a person who steals organization resources, viruses, disgruntled employees, accidents, uninformed end users, and natural disasters that cause your accounting systems to crash, just to name a few. This chapter will explore some of the products and tools that may be used by security professionals, including computer incident response teams, to prevent threats from being realized. Although this list is nowhere near inclusive of all tools and products currently available, it does present a good overview of areas to consider.
