The following code was taken from the U.S. Department of Justice Web site and is reiterated here to provide an overview of the primary laws pertaining to computer crimes. Although other laws may be used to prosecute individuals who break the law by using computers, these sections represent the primary set of codes used to prosecute activity normally considered to be cyber crime. Changes to these codes that resulted from the U.S. Patriot Act of 2001 are described in detail on the U.S. Department of Justice Web site.
