One of the most commercially successful and long-standing children's confectionaries sold around the world is the Kinder Egg, or Kinder Surprise. The Kinder Surprise originated in 1972 and is a global phenomenon, manufactured under franchise by many companies worldwide (see http://www.magic-kinder.com). The confectionary consists of an outside aluminum wrapper, a chocolate candy egg, and a small toy that has to be assembled. The toy is usually made of plastic, but occasionally of tin, and it is often designed by commissioned artists.
