The "Wizard of Menlo Park" was a wizard of branding. Thanks to his prolific creativity, his development of genuinely civilization-transforming inventions, and his prodigious gift for self-promotion, Thomas Edison succeeded in identifying himself personally with all of the merchandise he marketed. He became a brand, and his characteristic signature, executed with a flourish and duly trademarked, became one of the most recognizable logos in American manufacturing history.
