Chapter 3. Java Development

Introduction

A great majority of Eclipse developers develop Java code. This chapter begins our focus on Java development. We’ll cover a lot of ground in this chapter, including everything from speeding up the Eclipse JDT editor so that you can enter code more quickly, to using the JDT to create Java projects, packages, classes, and methods.

The Eclipse team is always thinking of techniques you can use to facilitate the development of Java code. This chapter highlights some of those techniques. We’ll continue our discussion of the Eclipse JDT in Chapter 4, which takes an in-depth look at refactoring, searching, building, and launching applications.
