Chapter 6: Types of domain

Once you have established the business name, you need to register the domain name — a domain name can be thought of as being your street address on the internet, such as microsoft.com or pcrescue.com.au, or the bit that comes after the ‘www.’ in a web address. If you don’t register one, you’re forced to use others’ services rather than owning your own internet property.

Registering domain names is probably the most complex and frustrating aspect of getting a business onto the internet. Aside from the obvious choice of the .com.au domain name, there’s a whole range of domain names to confuse the issue.
