Chapter 5. Scope the Project
There likely is no factor that would contribute more to the success of any project than having a good and complete definition of the project’s scope of work. Conversely, there is probably no factor that would contribute more quickly to the demise of any project than to initiate a new endeavor without understanding the full scope of work. Interestingly, the earned value technique cannot be employed on any project unless the project manager has defined the total job. Scope creep, if allowed to happen, would negate the ability to accurately measure project performance.
