Literature Review
This chapter takes a glance at the basic facts about what EVM was, what it is today, and what has been done for a better understanding of its current practice. This information reflects what the authors believe to be the basic notions underpinning the world of EVM practice. They are the motivation of EVM, the system view on earned value, its acceptance as a best practice, and its insightful history of expansion and refinement. However, for complete coverage, readers can refer to many excellent publications on EVM (e.g., PMI, 2005; Fleming & Koppelman, 2000; Kemps, 2000).
