David Benton served his country as a counterintelligence special agent. He was deployed into numerous theaters of operation, and his unit was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation by the director of central intelligence, John Deutch. After five years in the military and traveling extensively, he was honorably discharged. He joined the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as a forensic computer specialist. He was eventually promoted to a supervisor's position in the bureau's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
