Designing and Building the Application
It is common during the designing phase to decide a lot of things but not record half of them. Designing includes many important aspects:
Developing a logical data model— This is probably the most important part of the designing phase. No matter how small the project, an entity-relationship diagram should be created using a tool such as the Entity-Relationship diagrammer in Designer/2000 or LogicWorks's ERwin. These tools can help you create the logical model, generate the database, and document the data being stored in the database.
ER (Entity-Relationship) diagram— A diagram that provides a logical model of the database. It shows the various database entities and how they relate to each other.
