What Is a Database?

Several definitions are used for the word database, but for our purpose we will refer to it as an organized collection of data. The data collection is organized because the data is stored and accessed in a consistent manner. An example of a database is a contact book that contains the phone numbers and addresses of various people. Information stored in this database includes

  • Name of the person

  • Phone number

  • Address

It doesn't contain irrelevant information such as the age, height, weight, and other physical attributes of the person.
