Chapter 20. Digital Magazines and Rich Media
Many attempts have been made to produce electronic versions of the print magazines found at the corner newsstand. Most of them are straight conversions to PDF using the same layout and style, which unfortunately makes them difficult to read. Instead of reformatting the layout for computer display, the publishers print or “distill” the QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign document to PDF.
In this chapter, you’ll explore some of the ways you can include rich media in a PDF magazine so it is easy to read, fun to interact with, provides a source of revenue, and stands out from all other current offerings.
