Tree drawings provide ample opportunity for practicing cast shadows. When drawing cast shadows, note these few observations: (1) a shadow follows the shape of the ground or area on which it is cast; (2) value changes can occur within the shadow; (3) surface textures and details may be discernible within the shadow; and (4) lighter areas may appear within a shadow cast by tree foliage.
