Drawing from life is challenging when the subject is an animal that doesn’t sit still for long periods of time. Drawing from photographs certainly makes the process simpler, but capturing a clear photograph that makes for an interesting composition can be quite a mission. Any dog owner will tell you that getting a dog to sit still is a difficult task indeed. The only time a dog is not in motion is when it’s eating or sleeping, and neither of these makes for a particularly interesting portrait. The key is, put simply, patience!
