The Sketchbook

If you draw only when required to for your job as a designer, you will maintain, but probably not exceed, your present level of proficiency. It is a good idea to acquire the practice of drawing in a sketchbook on a regular basis. For the same reason a writer keeps a journal, a musician practices daily, and an athlete maintains a training schedule, a theatrical designer should keep a sketchbook and draw for at least an hour every week. Dedicating just an hour or two a week, every week, to drawing in the sketchbook will result in the ability to more quickly and confidently use your skills to illustrate your design ideas.
