Organizational Changes: Helpful Tips

Address employee concerns. Everyone will want to know what is going to happen to them during a downsizing initiative. You will need to be able to answer (or at least address) this question.

Design a new organizational structure. Design the organization’s new structure before you announce and implement a downsizing initiative. When you see this plan as a whole, you might want to change certain things, including the timetable. There might also be certain people that you will have to retain or terminate later on.

Have a transition plan. Develop a transition plan to help bridge the gap between the existing organization and the new organization that will be created as a result of the downsizing.
