Have a communication plan. Plan to make a general announcement followed up by personal meetings with each employee’s supervisor or manager. Coordinate the timing of these meetings so everyone hears the information at the same time. You need to avoid long delays of these notifications, and make sure that everyone knows when these communications are completed. Reassure everyone that those to be affected have been notified. Take care not to make promises that you might not be able to deliver in the future (especially if additional layoffs are possible).
