Utilizing Social Media

The impact of social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn has been enormous on the network marketing industry. YouTube can also be considered a social media site, and we covered it in Chapter 15.

Most people belong to one or more of these social media sites, but few people grasp the power of using the sites for business. Of course, there are some people who seem to grasp the power, but only in terms of spamming their friends with link after link and pitch after pitch.

If you are brand-new to the idea of using social media, I recommend that you start with Facebook and spend the vast majority of your social media time learning the ins and outs of the site. The traffic on Facebook is astounding.

Here are some Facebook statistics:

  • Facebook has more than 800 million active users, and on any given day, 50 percent of them log in.
  • There are more than 900 million pages, groups, and events, and the average user is connected to 80 of them.
  • An impressive 250 million pictures are uploaded every day.
  • Facebook users download applications more than 20 million times a day.

Twitter and LinkedIn are growing as well, but if you are just starting out, Facebook is a good place to spend the majority of your social media marketing time.
