Chapter 12

Generating Visitors and Site Traffic

The skill that seems to elude many Internet marketers is the ability to generate traffic online. You can have the greatest opportunity in the world with the most amazing products and your marketing funnel can be optimized and running like a fine-tuned machine, but without traffic, the whole operation will be worthless.

We’re going to focus on a number of proven techniques to generate highly targeted traffic so that the leads you create with your marketing funnel will be the most qualified prospects for your business and/or products.

Pay-per-Click Advertising

Google AdWords (pay per click) are best described as the small ads that you see when you search for something on Google. When I first used Google AdWords in January 2003, I thought that I found the Holy Grail. At the time, I set my budget at $10 per day and my average cost per click was about five cents. I hadn’t found a network marketer who used Google AdWords earlier, so the competition was virtually nonexistent.

For example, back in 2003, I could place an ad on Google for the search term “network marketing” and for the number one position; I would pay roughly five cents each time a person clicked on my ad. Today, if you place an ad for “network marketing,” you would pay roughly $2 per click for the number-one position.

Unless you know precisely what you are doing and your ad is extremely targeted, Google AdWords is not a viable option for driving traffic.
