All hardware is not created equal. I am sure that this is no surprise to any of you. Hardware vendors are even more keenly aware of this truth than most of us. The manufacturers make their livings by combining the available technology into a salable product. As a result, server manufacturers have taken to quoting performance numbers in their advertisements. Server vendors claim to run tens of thousands of users on whatever particular server line they happen to be hawking in a given ad.
This is not to say that manufacturers would deliberately misrepresent the facts. Simply put, each vendor wants to show his product in the best light possible.
