POP Mail and Domino

A user with a POP account on a Domino server has a Person document in the Domino Directory and a mail database on the server. The mail database is a standard Notes mail database. The Domino router deposits mail addressed to the person into his mail database in the same way it deposits mail into any user's database. Because the user is a POP3 user, the router converts the message to MIME format. To pick up his mail, a user authenticates with the Domino server, so that the server knows who the user is and which mail file belongs to the user. POP users can authenticate using either basic name and password authentication or SSL authentication.
