Transaction Logging

Transaction logging is a powerful new tool that's included with R5. When it's enabled, changes to databases (such as opening a new document, adding text, saving a document) are captured and written to the transaction log. Then, if a system or disk failure occurs, the transaction log and a third-party backup utility can recover your databases.

Transaction logging defers database updates to disk during periods of high server activity, which saves processing time. Instead of recording database updates to random, nonsequential parts of a disk, transactions are logged sequentially in the log files—that also saves processing time.
