The Domino Directory

The Domino Directory is the center of the Notes universe. Every Domino server hosts a primary Domino Directory with the filename names.nsf, which defines the membership of the local Notes domain. The Domino Directory is a Notes database. It is based on the Domain Directory template (pubnames.ntf).

In R4, the Domino Directory was known as the Public Address Book. In R3 and earlier ,it was known as the Public Name and Address Book. Because old habits are hard to break, many people (especially people at Lotus) still refer to it by both of those names or by acronyms such as NAB, PAB, and PNAB.
