Replication and Save Conflicts

Because Notes is a system of distributed databases, it cannot protect against conflicting edits of the same document, so it doesn't try to do so, at least not by default. Instead, it provides tools and procedures for minimizing conflicts and for dealing with them when they arise. Two kinds of document conflicts can occur in Notes databases:

  • Save conflicts. When two people simultaneously edit a data document on a single replica of a database, the first to save will be able to do so normally. When the second person tries to save, Notes displays the following Yes-or-No warning: "Another copy of this document was saved while you were editing it.
