Selective Replication

Sometimes you don't want to replicate everything in a database to a given server or workstation. For example, a sales force automation application may have replicas at company headquarters and each of the local sales offices. The headquarters copy would naturally hold all data generated in the application, both at headquarters and in the field. But perhaps the copies at the local sales offices should only hold data of interest to the local sales teams. This would keep the size of each local replica much smaller than the replica at headquarters. It would shorten replication times dramatically. And it would keep confidential or distracting information away from the eyes of the sales force.
