Doing business in a foreign country requires an understanding of that country’s culture. Although host country nationals (HCNs) may excuse foreigners for making cross-cultural mistakes, it does not make good business sense to continue to make mistakes, as this may cause embarrassment, and at worst a loss of business opportunities and prospects. Accordingly, it is important to learn about the culture, and utilize local cultural idiosyncrasies when doing business in China.
