Participate in a Major Indian Festival

When you’re in India, go with the flow and experience the color, vibrancy, and joy of a major festival. During the holiday times, give yourself a break. Apart from Diwali—the festival of lights and more or less a national event—there are other regional festivals that are celebrated with equal verve. For example, Holi is the festival of color. It heralds the onset of spring. To participate in the festivities, let your hair down, wear your oldest clothes, and join the crowds in the streets. You get smeared with colored powders and water and as you dance and twirl you send sprays of colored water flying around everywhere. It’s a good way to rediscover the child in you!
