Travel to an Indian Temple

India is replete with temples. The vast majority of them date back hundreds or even thousands of years, and they often formed the nucleus of Indian cities that are now thriving. Consider visiting these temples to witness their architectural splendor and experience the sense of sanctity and peace they exude.

Some of the most famous temples in India include the following:

The Khajuraho temples in the state of Madhya Pradesh are known for their erotic sculptures.
The Lord Venkateshwara Temple is the richest in India, situated in the hills of Tirupathi, where pilgrims shave their head as an offering. The hair is then exported around the world for wigs and hair extensions.
The Meenakshi Temple in Maduari features an awesome gopuram or temple tower.
The temple at Chidambaram has one thousand pillars, and was dedicated to Lord Shiva, who took the form of Nataraja, the Lord of Dance.
The Jagannath Temple at Puri once hosted a huge chariot festival that spawned the word juggernaut in the English language.
The Bahai Temple in Delhi is more modern and shaped like a lotus.

You can witness brilliant flashes of Indian culture at its temples. You may see Indian women decked in their finest silk saris and jewelry in honor of the gods they visit. There may also be a child with a shaven head romping about, his parents having vowed to offer his hair in exchange for good health. Or you can see a priest carrying water and fruits to wash and offer the idols. Check out www.indiantemples.com ...
