Embrace Your Ancestry

Are you a non-resident Indian (NRI), and do you want to start a business venture back in the home of your ancestors? If so, be warned—foreign returned Indians are viewed with a more critical eye than Westerners are in India. Generally, you come face to face with comments such as, “You’re one of us—why are you acting like one of them?

For instance, a Westerner moaning about the heat or a power outage may be tolerated, while an Indian-American for example, with the same complaints will be seen as a whiner. If you’re an NRI, be sure to establish early on that you’ve lived out of India for a long time and that you’re out of touch.
