Valuing Education: It’s the Indian Way!
Indian children are sent to school at a very early age in comparison to their Western counterparts, and the school curricula are intense. Most educated Indian children know at least two languages (one is English), and many go on to pursue higher studies in technical and non-technical institutions.
The Indian preoccupation with knowledge has been passed down through the generations, and it is still a driving force in the population today. The pool from which you find your key employees is a well-educated one, and, perhaps more importantly, full of Indians who want to continue to grow and develop.
Indians have always rated education and the pursuit of knowledge very high, and the results are undeniable. The number system was developed in India, as was the concept of zero. Algebra, trigonometry, and calculus started in India. Where was the world’s first university located? You guessed it. Back in 700 B.C. the first-ever university was founded in Takshila. It taught over 60 subjects, and more than 10,000 students passed through its doors. I devote an entire chapter to one of Takshila’s most illustrious students later in this book, so check out Chapter 19.
