Step One I begin by sketching the rough position of the cat. I plan to place the cat on a wall with its tail hanging down, so I mark this wall by placing a horizontal line a third of the way up the paper. I draw a large circle on the line for the cat’s rear and a smaller circle for the cat’s head. I join the two circles with sweeping lines to indicate the chest and back. I also add the ears, which helps show the direction of the cat’s head. I expand on my outline drawing by adding the front and rear legs, the tail, and the facial features, adjusting the shapes to match my reference.
