Step One I begin sketching the general shape of the cat. This cat has an interesting pose; we are viewing it from the side, but its head is turned, looking behind and slightly upward. With this in mind, I shift the position of the cat to the left side of the paper. This creates a more dynamic composition and encourages the viewer to wonder what the cat is looking at.
