Step One I begin by roughly sketching the general shape of the cat using an HB mechanical pencil. This cat’s pose makes for quite a simple outline, as we have no legs to worry about—just the mound of the cat’s back, the neck, and the head. I include the ears and features of the face to ensure that I have everything correctly positioned. I use the ears as a guide to align the eyes and line of the mouth.
