Chapter 21 Kazuhiro Soda

Born in Japan, filmmaker Kazuhiro Soda graduated from Tokyo University with a degree in religious studies before moving to New York City in 1993, where he studied filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts. With his wife, choreographer Kiyoko Kashiwagi, he co-founded the New York-based multimedia production company Laboratory X.

Soda worked in New York for many years as a filmmaker for NHK, Japan’s national public broadcasting organization, before completing his first feature-length documentary, the Peabody Award-winning Campaign (2007) .
