Master Cylinders

The master cylinder may need to be upgraded if you have changed your brake calipers or swapped drum brakes for disc brakes. Installing calipers with more piston area can mean that you must install a master cylinder with a larger piston area to supply the new calipers with enough brake fluid. A larger diameter master cylinder will send more fluid to the brakes and require pushing the pedal less distance, but with more force. On the other hand, if your pedal travels a reasonable distance but requires stomping down too hard, you might need a smaller diameter master cylinder. If your calipers work well with your existing master cylinder, however, there is probably no need to upgrade here.
