Fuel System
The fuel takes its own path from the fuel tank to the engine. Most fuel-injected engines have an electric fuel pump mounted inside the gas tank itself. This pump sends fuel through the fuel lines to a filter. After leaving the filter and traveling through more fuel lines, the fuel arrives at a fuel rail, a large tube mounted on the intake manifold. The fuel rail connects to the tops of the fuel injectors, a set of electronic valves that open or close to let a precise amount of fuel into the intake manifold.
At the other end of the fuel rail is a fuel pressure regulator. This contains a valve that opens and closes to keep a steady pressure level in the fuel rail. The valve stays closed below the required fuel pressure. Once the fuel ...
