Jacks and Jackstands

Working under a car is not safe if the car is held up by cinder blocks. If you need to lift the car to work under it, make sure you are supporting it safely. You will want a jack, jackstands, and wheel chocks to hold the car in place. Lift the car on a solid concrete or asphalt surface, and never crawl under a car that is held up by a jack alone. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen jacks break, topple over, or just gradually lower the car back down when they shouldn’t. Instead, use the jack to lift the car, and support it with the jackstands. The owner’s manual will show where to place the jack to lift the car.
