What are localization variables?

If you plan to publish PDFs in multiple languages, you want to minimize the amount of translation required. One way to do this is to use language-specific variables for boilerplate text, such as the prefix for admonitions (notes, cautions, warnings, etc.) or standard headings for the table of contents, index, related topics categories, etc. Often this boilerplate text does not even appear in the XML sent to the translation agency; it is added by the DITA Open Toolkit when your files are processed. That means you only pay to translate it once per language.
