Chapter 12. DITA Code Editing

If you want to improve the quality of your content, you should not only edit the text, but also edit the XML code, or markup, in your topics and DITA maps. You edit DITA code by doing a code review. The goal of the code review is to ensure that your team’s use of DITA elements is consistent and appropriate.

DITA is a semantic markup language, which means you must apply DITA elements to content based on what that content is rather than how that content should appear in output. For example, elements such as <b> (bold) and <i> (italic) have no semantic value, whereas elements such as <uicontrol> or <term> describe the type of content.
