Chapter 8. Metadata

We’ll be honest: Dealing with some areas of metadata is for the more advanced DITA user. If your writing team is just learning about DITA elements, don’t scare them by using fancy words such as metadata at team meetings. Otherwise, the guy who brings the donuts might not come anymore.

Fortunately, it’s not all rocket science. For example, metadata also includes index entries, which are easy to implement.

Metadata is information about the content in your DITA topics and maps. Properly implemented, metadata can help writers create content targeted to specific audiences, products, versions, and so on, which in turn helps your users to find the right information.
