Some leaders reputations extend beyond their companies because what they do has such an impact on the community or region. Here are examples of two such leaders, one from history, one from the present, who can claim community as part of their brands.

Daniel Burnham, Architect—Rebuilding Chicago after the Great Fire

From Sunday, October 8, to early Tuesday, October 10, 1871, the Great Chicago Fire burned, killing 300 people, destroying about four square miles of the city, and leaving 100,000 homeless. Out of the ashes of one of the largest disasters of the nineteenth century came Chicago’s development into one of the most well-designed and vibrant cities in the world.
