KEEPING A LOW PROFILE

Many CEOs have explicit policies and a long-standing practice of keeping a low profile in the media. When I was sending out queries for interviews for this book, I frequently ran into this policy. It is dictated not so much by industry but by corporate culture and the individual preference of the leader. Sometimes it’s just a practice that’s been part of the company for generations of leaders. Other times, CEOs choose a low profile because of perceived threats, privacy, competitive issues, or the classified work they do. These are all strategic decisions.
