Severity Levels

As mentioned in Chapter 1, if criticality levels provide a measure of how important something is to the business, severity levels tell us how significant events are. The following table is an example of severity levels. You may decide to list more or have different criteria or names. It’s the principle that matters; the exact implementation is irrelevant as long as it’s consistent within your organization and represents a sensible way of breaking incidents up.
