THE DIRECTOR AND PRODUCTION TECH

 

 

For the most part, the director relies heavily on the production crew for their technical expertise and creative ability. A director can’t possibly know everything necessary to make the film, especially as these days keeping up with changes in production technology is a full-time job. A good DP, AC, gaffer, or sound recordist will stay abreast of changes in their field and bring their experience from working on many films a year. They will always know more about their particular craft than you do, but the more you know about technological basics, the more you can anticipate the creative capacity and flexibility of the tools you depend on to tell your story.
